What is Muon Network (MUON)?

Muon is a global data availability layer that enables running Web2 and Web3 applications, off chain, on chain, and cross chain. The network acts as a base layer that receives and sends messages from the real world and between blockchains, creating a fluid DeFi and Crypto ecosystem.

Muon Network taps into the rapidly evolving blockchain-based industry by providing a key service needed to make this industry functional: secure real-time global data availability and trustless cross chain communication.

The Muon protocol consists of a large number of nodes that process and sign valuable data upon request and push sensitive data in a secure threshold signature scheme to smart contracts on blockchains where the integrity can be verified.

Muon itself is not a permanent state machine like ethereum, but rather a stateless protocol. Nodes are required to deposit collateral in a Muon smart contract upfront, making sure that malicious behavior is punished by slashing.

It is run by a global community of node operators, all incentivized by the Muon token.

The Muon Network is already live in production and running on a Proof of Authority consensus and will be upgraded to Proof of Stake after the public Launch of the Token.

Muon enables a powerful and secure decentralized microservice that can run any app/software, by being secured by well researched cryptography based on Threshold Schnorr with Stateless Deterministic Signing from Standard Assumptions.

By connecting dApps to a global data availability layer, it enhances them to become industry giants. It is in no way a replacement for blockchains, but rather is a perfect technology-match and provides the next step in the evolution of the decentralized economy.

There are some key elements to Muon’s design and viability clearly showing how beneficial it is for projects to build with Muon.

Muon’s team estimates that approximately 80% of all valid projects could significantly benefit from interfacing with the platform. It is essentially a Lamdba AWS-type player in the market enabling decentralized microservices that have access to any arbitrary information through muons global data availability layer.

Through our SDK the innovative nature of Muon crypto is shining through, accessing data or computational resources through the Muon Network are seamlessly possible on the frontend. This supercharges web3 apps and is needed to become a real competitor to current web2 apps while being secure and decentralized.

Seamless Scalability

Whereas blockchain scalability is limited, or highly influenced by, the preservation of state across nodes, Muon doesn’t need to be. The Muon network is not a chain, nor does it permanently store data. Because of that, the network can scale horizontally with ease. Muon is basically sharding transactions, instead of applications. To work, every transaction only needs to get t out of n nodes to sign, in order to be valid, increasing the speed and potential scalability while inheriting the decentralization needed. Every project can set their own t values, customizing their muonApps with their own data in their needed setup.

Decentralized Computation

With Muon Network, any Web3 app can run high-level, tamper-proof computations (Python, Java, C, C++, Rust, etc.) within its own Muon app container. Nodes running the same Application can gossip and even work together, forming a decentralized super-computer.

Also making it possible to create Muon Keepers that are able to execute Transactions onchain based on onchain or offchain events, creating a secure but highly optimized and automized envoirment. Something that hasnt been possible with current blockchain infrastructure before.

Secure Subsequential Consensus

Muon’s core consensus layer is a unique and completely new type of system which we’ve named Secure Subsequential Consensus. Through adaptive collateralization, the protocol can ensure fast execution times while simultaneously ensuring that node consensus can be reached in a fraud-proof architecture.

Customizable and cost-efficient

Nodes are not required to run all apps, they can easily opt in or out of the program they’d like to run on their machine. Over time, we will start to see the division between the type of nodes available in the network:

• Specialized nodes: nodes running a very specific app
• General nodes: nodes running (almost) all apps

Because of this, web3 developers can now shift between the trade-offs this configuration yields: security vs. speed.

Also node hardware requirements could be compared to how current Software requirements work, every muonApp could have their own Node Requirements based on their liking, there are of course obviously “minimum requirements” like you are experiencing on your windows machine to run the Muon Core, but the real Node requirements will be based on the muonApps you like to install, obviously more muonApps installed on your machine will generate more requests what will ultimately generate more Muon Transaction fees.

  Muon’s decentralised oracles solve many of the issues that industry-standard oracles face, from slow data feeds to single points of weakness. Muon oracles are fast, secure, and fully decentralized. When there is a request for data, Muon nodes secure the data, with our collateral structure, while other nodes work in the background to verify accuracy. We call this process subsequent consensus, and it enables data to be securely acted on, immediately upon signing.

  Muon oracles are also customizable depending on the requirements of the dApp, from how many signatures are required to how much collateral the nodes need to provide, and more.
